Town Petrinja
Petrinja’s town area is an integral part of Sisak-Moslavina County and covers an area of 380.94 km2. This is an area that comprises mostly hilly parts of Zrinska and Hrastovačka gora and smaller lowlands along the rivers of Kupa and Petrinjčica. Its administrative area is of mainly rural character, and includes 55 villages and settlements. Surrounding Petrinja there are towns of Sisak and Glina, and municipalities of Lekenik, Donji Kukuruzari and Dvor.
The town of Petrinja is located on the right bank of the Kupa, at the mouth of Petrinjčica. Over the centuries, its development and survival were influenced by a favourable geographical position. Namely, the town is situated at the intersection of the roads which connect north-western Croatia and Zagreb with Banovina, and further with the neighbouring state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thus, the areas of Kordun and Banovina are connected with Posavina.
